Innovation Zone
Last week, we brought you news of plans to bring innovation to some of Aurora's lowest performing schools. This week, Aurora School Board unanimously approved to grant these schools greater autonomy over budgets, hiring, and curriculum. If the State Board signs off on the plans, Crawford and Paris elementary and Boston K8 hope to see reforms by next fall.
Scores in Comparison
Tuesday's release of the Education Equality Index revealed that Aurora's income-based achievement gap is wider than 95 percent of other major U.S. cities. But the gap has been shrinking. Check out the Index here.
Snow Days
This week, Aurora Public Schools closed for two days following Wednesday's blizzard. Schools are back open Friday, although spring break begins next week.
